We began the festivities by heading out to our old stomping grounds - Waxhaw - for the annual 4th of July parade. This was Ella and Aidan's first parade, and they were enthralled by the whole affair, and loved clapping and waving....
....and showing their holiday spirit by waving their patriotic pinwheels at all of the passerbys!
They stood transfixed as we watched firetrucks, tractors, police cars, etc - you name it, we saw it!
That afternoon we headed over to the James household for a cookout.
Ella and Aidan had their first fun with pop-its....
....and rode real bicycles for the first time!
We enjoyed a wonderful meal, and then the kids all played outside until the sun began to fade.
There is something about the below photo that just feels so quintessentially "summer"...fading sun, bare feet, green grass, trees, fresh air and plenty of room to run and play!

We then packed up the cars and headed back to Waxhaw for Ella and Aidan's first fireworks! The kids could not wait, and were all so excited.
Dana and I were a bit nervous that the kids would get frightened, but to our delight, they all loved every minute. Aidan literally exclaimed "Wow" after each and every one!
