Signs of Spring

I absolutely adore our neighborhood! When we were house hunting back in 2004, Mike and I had such a difficult time finding a house that was "us".  We both loved the feel of a new house, but absolutely could not stand most of the new neighborhoods in our target area of town (south Charlotte).

It seemed that they were all cookie cutter house plans / elevations - you literally drove down the street and saw the exact same house over and over again.  In addition to that, the streets always seemed to be filled with cars, primarily because newer houses (at least the ones that we could afford) had very little storage space - so people use their garages for storage.  Neither one of us like to see streets lined with cars - cars belong in the garage (if you have one).

One day, we stumbled across our current neighborhood and it was love at first sight.  Wide streets, sidewalks, homes with true curb appeal that are unique - no cookie cutter homes here! And one other thing that was missing in the new homes (again, the ones we could afford!), large lots with large, mature trees!  As an added bonus, our neighborhood has a wonderful park with swing sets, tennis courts and walking trails.

We were instantly in love with the neighborhood, and have absolutely loved living here! We have wonderful neighbors, and simply could not have asked for a better location in town!

All of that just to say that I love to see the signs of Spring in our yard. We don't have all of the usual strict laws regarding what you can do to your yard, and we have truly made it our own private oasis.

Today I noticed the first real signs that Spring is on the way.  The grass seems greener, the daffodils are blooming, the first rhododendron blossoms are appearing, and the daylillies are peeking up from the ground.  I am sure that a few cold snaps are still in store - but it won't be long before the warm weather is officially here!

Welcome Spring!

Ella happened to notice the moon while we were out playing in the yard. I wasn't even aware that she knew the word moon, she has never said it before - I guess she really has been paying attention when we read Goodnight Moon!
