Beginner's Day

It is definitely official now - Ella and Aidan are heading to Waddell Language Academy for Kindergarten!

As many close to us knew, we struggled with the decision of whether to send them to our home school or to try for a magnet program. Our home school is definitely not a bad option, but not one that we were over the moon, super excited about. Private school is not financially in the cards, so we opted to look into the magnet lottery.

We explored and visited our top options - from language programs to montessori to international baccalaureate - and wound up with our hearts set on the German program at Waddell Language Academy.

So, we submitted our options, and won two spots in the kindergarten program for next year.  Ella and Aidan will attend Waddell Language Academy for K-8.  Years K-3 are full language immersion - meaning that not one word of English is spoken. Everything they do and learn will be in German. Once they hit 4th grade, English is woven back into the curriculum.

We are beyond excited for this amazing opportunity. No private school could privide this, and our home school certainly has nothing of the sort.

After a long day of celebrations at school this morning, this afternoon we attended Beginner's Day, where we heard a brief presentation about the overall program and the uniform requirements (yep, they have to wear a uniform - YEAH!!) before heading off to the classrooms to meet the teachers.

Listening to the presentation in the auditorium:

There are two German classes and each teacher has a full time assistant. We have the option of separating the twins or keeping them together, but we are not sure which apporoach we will take just yet.

The kids had a ball and loved every minute!

The teachers had all of the little ones sit in the center of the room (can you spot our two in the front row?) and immediately began speaking to them in German - not a word of English!

We are so excited for Ella and Aidan. Opa is also beside himself in anticipation of taking his German speaking grandchildren to Germany one day!
